Hot Rolled Coil, HRC

Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) is a semi-finished steel product produced by high temperature rolling process. It is a wide flat steel product in a compact coil form, which is produced by heating the continuously cast slab (or initial rolled billet) to above the recrystallization temperature (usually over 1100°C) in a steel plant, and then continuously rolling, cooling and coiling in a hot rolling unit for multiple passes.

Description

## Core Process and Features
* **High temperature rolling:** The steel is plastically deformed in the austenite state, the rolling force is relatively small, and the production efficiency is high.
* **Natural cooling:** After rolling, natural cooling methods such as laminar cooling or air cooling are usually used to form a relatively coarse ferrite-pearlite structure.
* **Surface characteristics:** The surface is covered with a layer of blue-gray iron oxide (commonly known as “scale”), which is the natural result of high temperature and air contact oxidation. It has a certain protective effect, but it is also slightly rough.
* **Wide range of sizes:**
* Thickness: Usually ranges from 1.2mm to 25.4mm (even thicker), and common specifications are 2.0mm to 12.7mm.
* Width: It can reach more than 2000mm, and the common width is 900mm to 1900mm.
* Inner diameter: The inner diameter of the coiling hole is generally 762mm (30 inches) or 610mm (24 inches).
* Single coil weight: usually between 10 tons and 35 tons, can be customized according to customer needs.
* **Various materials:** Can produce a variety of steel grades, including:
* Ordinary carbon structural steel (such as SPHC, SS400, Q235B, A36)
* High-quality carbon structural steel
* Low-alloy high-strength steel (HSLA)
* Pipeline steel (API 5L)
* Automotive structural steel (partial basic level)
* Weathering steel
* And special composition steel customized according to customer needs.

## Core advantages and performance
1. **High cost-effectiveness:** The production process is relatively simple and efficient, and it is one of the lowest-cost flat products.
2. **Good formability:** Compared with cold-rolled products, its yield strength and hardness are lower, and it has better ductility and plasticity, which is suitable for processing that requires a certain amount of deformation (such as bending, stamping).
3. **Excellent weldability:** The carbon equivalent is usually low, the welding performance is good, and it is widely used in welded structural parts.
4. **High strength-to-toughness ratio:** For many structural applications, it provides a good basic balance of strength and toughness.
5. **Dimensionally stable and good plate shape:** Modern hot rolling mills can accurately control thickness tolerance and plate shape (flatness).
6. **Flexible supply:** The coiled form is easy to store and transport, and can be easily uncoiled, slitting, cross-cutting and other deep processing according to downstream needs.
